Taco Bell didn’t reveal if a financial settlement was involved. “The response we’ve seen over the last six months since taking action to free ‘Taco Tuesday’ is the exact reason we felt it was worth freeing it in the first place,” Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer Taylor Montgomery told CNN. However, Gregory’s owners proved harder to persuade, and they said that Taco Bell made them “look bad” during an August giveaway of free tacos. “For Gregory’s Restaurant and Bar, ‘Taco Tuesday’ brought a lot of pride over the past 40 years,” said co-owner Gregory Gregory. Therefore, I am not surprised that the Gregory’s waived the white flag and surrendered its trademark registration.”Gregory’s surrender marks the final hurdle of Taco Bell’s legal battle of eliminating the trademark from its two holders.

REUTERS/Joshua Roberts/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Oct 2 (Reuters) - McDonald's (MCD.N) and Wendy's (WEN.O) have defeated a lawsuit accusing them of deceiving hungry diners by exaggerating the size of their burgers. Chimienti, a resident of Long Island's Suffolk County, said McDonald's and Wendy's ads depicted undercooked beef patties because meat shrinks 25% when cooked. The complaint quoted a food stylist who said she had worked for McDonald's and Wendy's, and preferred undercooked patties because fully-cooked burgers looked "less appetizing." He said McDonald's and Wendy's were not legally obligated to sell burgers by advertising them, and that their websites provided "prominent, objective information" about the burgers' weight and caloric content. McDonald's, Wendy's and their lawyers did not immediately respond to similar requests.

The logo of U.S. fast food group Burger King is seen at a restaurant in Bruettisellen, Switzerland October 11, 2016. U.S. District Judge Roy Altman in Miami said Burger King must defend against a claim that its depiction of Whoppers on in-store menu boards mislead reasonable customers, amounting to a breach of contract. He dismissed claims based on TV and online ads, finding none in which Burger King promised a burger "size," or patty weight, and failed to deliver it. REUTERS/Carlo Allegri/Illustration/File PhotoAug 2 (Reuters) - Yum Brands (YUM.N) topped market estimates for quarterly results on Wednesday, as cheaper meals and promotional offers at its KFC restaurants boosted demand and overshadowed lackluster traffic at Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. Quarterly comparable sales at KFC rose 13%, handily beating estimates of 8.29%, and logging the best same-store sales growth in at least seven quarters. Same-store sales at Yum Brands rose 9% in the quarter ended June 30, compared with analysts' estimates of a 7.01% increase, according to Refinitiv IBES data. Excluding items, Yum Brands earned $1.41 per share, above estimates of $1.24 per share.

New York CNN —The photos online of Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza last September reeled in New York resident Frank Siragusa. From webbedgiant/RedditThese claims against Taco Bell are not the first of its kind for Siragusa’s lawyers, James Kelly and Anthony Russo. Siragusa is seeking $5 million for customers who purchased Taco Bell menu items affected by false advertising practices. The lawsuit comes just as Taco Bell wrapped up its battle against Taco John’s for the “Taco Tuesday” trademark, in which the taco chain successfully petitioned for the phrase to be available for all. Taco Bell did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.

In a proposed class action filed on Monday in Brooklyn federal court, Siragusa accused Taco Bell of deceiving consumers by falsely advertising its Mexican Pizza, Veggie Mexican Pizza, Crunchwrap Supreme, Grande Crunchwrap and Vegan Crunchwrap as containing "at least double" their actual content. He is not alleging that the items contain less content than Taco Bell describes on its website. Taco Bell, a unit of Yum Brands (YUM.N), did not immediately respond to requests for comment. "Taco Bell does not adequately disclose the weight of the beef or filling," Russo said in an email. The case is Siragusa v Taco Bell Corp, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, No.

Taco Bell will sell a vegan version of its popular Crunchwrap, made with plant-based beef and cheese, in three U.S. cities for a limited time, it said Wednesday. Starting Thursday, customers in Los Angeles, New York and Orlando will be able to order the Vegan Crunchwrap. Vegetarians were also among the fans who successfully pushed Taco Bell to bring back its cult-favorite Mexican Pizza. Taco Bell used pea protein and soy to make the vegan beef in the new Crunchwrap. For the vegan blanco sauce and vegan nacho sauce, Taco Bell used soy as the main base.

KFC launched a two-for-$5 promotion on fried chicken wraps earlier this year. This deal led to strong sales from low-income shoppers at KFC during the first quarter, its parent company said. "In the Q1 KFC rolled out those $5 wraps," Yum Brands CEO David Gibbs said during the call. KFC added chicken wraps to its US menu in February 2023 after a trial in Atlanta in 2022. Insider reached out to Yum Brands for more details on how long the deal would run but did not immediately hear back.
Chick-fil-A is keeping its side salad on the menu "at participating locations," the chain said. Fans said the salad was a key reason they kept visiting the fried chicken restaurant. The fast-food chain is reversing course and keeping the salad on its menu, the restaurant chain said on Friday. In March, Chick-fil-A said that it planned to stop serving the side salad in an effort to streamline its menu. One Chick-fil-A restaurant in Georgia posted about the salad's ouster on Facebook, which attracted commenters who were unhappy with the move.

Fast-food chains are looking like the big winners in the fourth quarter — and beyond — as fast-casual and casual-dining restaurants struggle to attract customers. Many publicly traded restaurant companies haven't reported their latest quarterly results yet, but for those that have, a pattern is emerging. The fast-food giant said U.S. same-store sales climbed 10.3%, helped in part by low-income consumers returning more frequently than they had for the prior two quarters. Taco Bell's domestic same-store sales climbed 11%, boosted by increased breakfast orders, the return of Mexican Pizza and its value meals. Pizza Hut's U.S. same-store sales grew 4%, while KFC's ticked up 1% as it faced tough year-ago comparisons.

REUTERS/Shannon StapletonFeb 8 (Reuters) - Yum Brands Inc (YUM.N) beat Street estimates for quarterly sales and profit on Wednesday, as more cash-strapped consumers flocked to its Taco Bell restaurant chain for pocket-friendly meals and snacks amid still high inflation. Total same-store sales at Yum rose 6% in the fourth quarter, while analysts were expecting a 4.57% increase, according to Refinitiv IBES data. Excluding one-time items, Yum Brands earned $1.31 per share for the three months ended Dec. 31, beating estimates of $1.26. McDonald's Corp (MCD.N) last week also topped quarterly profit and sales estimates, boosted by higher menu prices and increased customer visits at the burger giant's outlets.

To compete with rivals such as McDonald’s during lunchtime, the chain is considering permanently adding fries to its menu, Taco Bell CEO Mark King said during an investor event Tuesday. Taco Bell has put nacho fries, its take on French fries, on the menu periodically as a limited-time offering since the item launched in 2018. Executives at Taco Bell, McDonald's, and Chipotle each noted success from pricier menu items recently. The more expensive meal promotion successfully brought customers in, and "drove the highest weekly digital transactions ever in the US business," Kempczinski said in the October earnings call. Taco Bell is seeing similar success with pricier menu items like the grilled cheese burrito, YUM Brands CEO David Gibbs said in a November earnings call. In New York City, a Mexican Pizza costs $6.49, and a double steak grilled cheese burrito goes for $6.79, about double the cost of lower-priced burritos on the menu. Analysts have praised both the grilled cheese burrito and adult Happy Meal as smart strategies driving sales.
McDonald's is taking the McRib on its fourth farewell tour. A farewell tour is more of a "call to action" than a sign the McRib will actually leave menus, an analyst said. McDonald's has held three other farewell tours for the sandwich, in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Taco Bell famously removed potatoes and the Mexican Pizza from menus only to return both within a year, saying demand for the Mexican Pizza was seven times higher after its return. When dishes like Mexican pizza or the McRib return, they already have a built-in fanbase among customers.
McDonald's praised the McRib for driving sales during an earnings call. The McRib returns to menus on October 31 for a limited time. CEO Chris Kempczinski called the sandwich, which returns to menus periodically, "the GOAT of sandwiches on our menu" in an October 27 earnings call. The chain didn't share specific McRib sales numbers from previous runs. The McRib returns to menus on October 31 for a "limited period."
Edge Computing Helps Feed Taco Bell’s Digital Business

Taco Bell is making aggressive use of edge computing to support the many digital ways customers can place orders, the fast-food chain’s head of technology said. PREVIEW“We took [on] our most critical workloads in order processing and menu data,” Mr. Parizher said. General Electric Co. and Siemens AG , for example, are using edge computing to optimize factory machines in real time. The Wall Street Journal's Steven Rosenbush, left, talks with Vadim Parizher, Taco Bell's vice president of technology, at an online event Thursday. With edge-computing foundations in place, he said, Taco Bell can experiment with connected robotic equipment that can fry food, warm up tortillas or pour drinks.
